Isfolket in English

Hi! I'm Kristina, from Norway, and I've been a fan of these books for some years now. Can't believe I didn't find this community earlier, but I did now and I just joined. :)

Anyways, my real reason for posting here is to ask about the translations of the Isfolket-books? I know they were finally going to translate them into English, but I haven't heard/found anything about it since April last year. Does anyone know anything more about this? I have so many English/American friends I really want to introduce to the series, but I can't find any information about when they plan to publicize the first book. :S

And I wrote in English so that everyone in this community could help me if they know anything. :P

Thanks!

Nordisk Isfolket-samfunn

Spørsmål? Spør her, så ser lederne det. :)

I'm going to Denmark in two weeks and I thought I'd try to get my hands on some "Ljusets rike" books. Only 12 or so were published in Iceland and although I can't say I was ever that enthusiastic about them I just hate leave a task unfinished.

I've seen the books in Sweden but my Danish is considerably better than my Swedish (i.e. comprehension - I'd rather not try to speak Danish - we'd be here all week) so I thought I'd try to hunt them down this time. Does anyone if they are available in Denmark and if so where I'd be likely to find them?

Pardon the English, but my Scandinavian isn't at it's best right now. Although this question is actually directed to the Icelandic readers of this community.

Anyway, I was wondering what the new translation is like. Is it as full of errors as the old translation? How about names of people and places, what are they like? On the whole (so far) is it better or worse than the original?

I have a question:

In book no. 29 - when the dying Saga names her twins she names them Marco after Marcel (i.e. Lucifer) and Vilhjálmur - after her husband Guillaume (William in English - Vilhjálmur in Icelandic - probably something similar in Swedish.) That is - according to my Icelandic translation. Now I don't know if the translator got hit on the head and forgot some crucial passage or if the blame lies with Margit Sandemo but why on earth is the child suddenly called Úlfar at the beginning of book no. 30 (and onwards) with no explanation in sight? Something somewhere isn't making any sense and I'm hoping Scandinavians might have the answer.

This has been bugging me for 18 years...

I apologize for the English - my Danish is lacking.

I made a few Isfolket icons a few months ago but was frustrated over the lack of good scans of the covers. So when I bought my very own scanner guess what the first thing I did was?

Yep, you guessed it.

The covers are all in Icelandic (obviously) and so the book names are as well (because I'm lazy and can't be bother to look up the Scandinavian ones):

Martröð
Vorfórn
Ástir Lúsífers
Vonin
Álagafjötrar
Nornaveiðar
Djöflafjallið
Jómfrúin og vætturin
Fótspor Satans

That's the first batch. Let me know if you have any requests or desire better resolutions of these covers.

And a question: what do we think of the new covers? And just how much do the new Icelandic ones suck in comparison to the new Danish ones?

Fic!

*sparker liv i communityen* Opp og stå! :D

*reklamere*

Tittel: Dødssynder
Kinkyness: Ganske snill. :) PG-13?
Forfatter: Kaÿa
Merknader: Pene ord, stygge ord, gi meg ord! Jeg tåler det meste. :D
